Former Cleveland Browns defensive back Bernie Parrish published one of the first tell-all books about the reality of playing in the NFL. Describing himself as “a revolutionary”, Parrish said his aim was to drive “sportsmen-owners” out of the NFL and give players more power. Among the claims in this book, which shocked fans when it was first published, is the suggestion that NFL games had been fixed. They Call It a Game was briefly reissued in 2000 but is out of print at the time of writing.
